The Lansing Economic Development Corporation (Lansing EDC) in partnership with the Arts Council of Greater Lansing, is pleased to announce a call to artists to submit work to be a featured artist in the newest City of Lansing Placemaking Project! This placemaking project will be a public art display, consisting of “mini murals” featured on large letter signage spelling out “LANSING.” See Figure 1 for the reference project. The Lansing EDC, in partnership with the Arts Council of Greater Lansing, is in search of seven different artists to each decorate an individual letter with Lansing-themed art. Each chosen artist will be compensated $1000 for each 6-foot letter completed with supplies and materials provided. Each letter must be completed within a four-week timeframe. The mock-up of the letters is located at the bottom of this call.
Location
This Lansing Placemaking Project is a permanent display of public art at the highly trafficked intersection of N. Grand Avenue and E. Saginaw Street near Downtown Lansing. The project is featured along the Grand River and the Lansing River Trail, adding to the natural beauty of the area. The project site is across from the Lansing Community College and Play Michigan Playground. The project is near the City of Lansing’s Durant Park, Adado Riverfront Park and the heart of Downtown Lansing. The placemaking project will be highly visible and frequently visited, acting as Lansing’s newest public art display and potential landmark.
