The Arts Council of Greater Lansing announces a call for submissions of existing or new art pieces on behalf of Greater Lansing Food Bank (GLFB) to be included in a catalog of art available for purchase.
PROJECT BACKGROUND
Greater Lansing Food Bank recently built a new distribution center in Bath, Michigan, and is looking to fill the office space with work from our wealth of local artists in mid-Michigan. They are looking for artist submissions to be part of an ongoing catalog of work for their employees to choose from to fill their spaces and inspire their work to feed local neighbors.
GLFB strives to partner to alleviate hunger one meal at a time, to create a future where everyone has access to nourishing food. Their facility sees dozens of staff, volunteers and leadership, working towards a hunger-free community. GLFB aims to engage and work with artists within their 7-county service region that are representative of the diverse communities and neighbors served.
ELIGIBILITY
This Call is open to artists living in or doing significant work in the GLFB service area of Clare, Clinton, Eaton, Gratiot, Ingham, Isabella and Shiawassee counties. Artists should be able to provide pieces available for purchase by GLFB in a digital format (thumbnail). Interested artists should be readily available to provide work as reproductions or original pieces and are welcome to propose work in all media and materials that meet the “Artwork Criteria.”
ARTWORK CRITERIA
Themes: artwork that will help the space to feel energetic, innovative, nourishing and community-based
-2D original art or art print, all media and styles
-Unframed Reproductions on Paper (or “prints” for the purpose of this call)
-Art Sizes Needed: 5” x 7”, 8” x 10”, 11” x 14”
-Price per PRINT piece should not exceed $50
-Reproductions on Stretched Canvas (or “canvas” for the purpose of this call) Art Sizes Needed: 16” x 20” or 18” x 24”
-Price per CANVAS piece should not exceed $250
PROJECT TIMELINE
Call for Artist Opens: Friday, July 21, 2023
Priority Deadline for Submission: Monday, Aug. 31, 2023, 11:59 p.m.
Review of Submissions: September 1 – 15, 2023
Artwork should be available for purchase: August 31 – October 31*
Expected Installation: September-October 2023
*If you have a piece that you would like to submit, but you have it available for purchase elsewhere (ex: shows), please note that in the submission.
SUBMISSION INFORMATION
The Arts Council uses the submission software, Slideroom to accept and process applications. Technical assistance is available to ensure the submission is easy to evaluate. Chosen artwork should be prepared by the artist and deliverable through the mail or dropped off at the Arts Council.
You can submit up to 4 pieces individually or you can choose to link to a Google folder of available art or you can upload a line sheet of your available art. If you have sizes outside of the sizes listed above, please include them in your Google Folder submission, noting the size(s) it is available in.

Review Submitted artwork will be reviewed by representatives of the Arts Council and GLFB.
Deadline: To be given priority, application, images and other required materials must be submitted electronically by Aug. 31, 2023, 11:59 p.m. However, submissions will be accepted until Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023.

About the Art:
Better Together
Above is a piece from the national hunger relief organization leading local food banks, Feeding America. It hangs in the new distribution center and speaks to the goals of GLFB. This piece will be used as the inspiration of the overarching theme tying all selected art together.
Feeding America is the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization—a powerful and efficient network of 220 food banks across the country. As food insecurity rates hold steady at the highest levels ever, the Feeding America network of food banks has risen to meet the need. During the coronavirus pandemic, volunteers across the network sacrificed and worked for countless hours to ensure their neighbors did not face hunger during this unprecedented time. As a thank you to the staff, workers and volunteers, visual artist Stacey Brown was commissioned by Feeding America to create a unique piece of art that captured the essence of the times and with color, love and heart.
This exclusive print “Better Together” is a visual reflection and representation of how people in the Feeding America network came together in a commitment to create an environment of loving response to help those in need of food essentials during a worldwide crisis.
