2015 Scholarship Fund Recipients for Young Creatives
Lansing, Mich., April 28, 2015 – The Arts Council of Greater Lansing proudly announces the 2015 recipients of scholarship funds for youth through the Young Creatives Program. Funded by the Arts Council of Greater Lansing through the Arts Advancement Endowment Fund and Michigan State University Federal Credit Union, the awards were made to non-profit organizations in the greater Lansing region through a competitive process.
“The Arts Council is extremely proud of our Young Creatives program and the role it plays in supporting youth arts education,” says Executive Director Deborah E. Mikula. “We have so many wonderful organizations in our region, and they are creating great programs for our area youth,” Mikula says. “It is very gratifying to offer them funding that supports their work and helps provide scholarships to families in need.”
Awarded organizations will provide scholarships for youth ages 5-17 with financial need to attend arts-related classes and programs as follows:
All-of-us Express Children’s Theatre will award full or partial scholarships to youth ages 5-15 to attend a summer-long series of drama day camps for youth. Each week will have a different theme and will target specific age groups. All week-long camps will take place between June 15 and August 21, 2015, at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center.
Lansing Art Gallery will provide scholarships to seven students for the attendance of one full week of summer art camp. The Summer Art Camp program provides four weeks of visual arts experiences for students ages 7-12. Sessions are led by professional artists with focus on creativity, technique, critique, and vocabulary. Sessions are held Monday through Friday and will occur between June 22 and August 7, 2015. Activities will take place at Lansing Art Gallery located at 119 North Washington Square in downtown Lansing.
MSU Community Music School will provide financial assistance for students with need, ages 5-17 years old, to attend one of MSU Community Music School’s six summer music camps between June 8 and August 7, 2015. All camps will take place on the MSU campus, either at Community Music School or at the Music and Music Practice Buildings.
REACH Studio Art Center will present $75 scholarships to students aged 6-13 to attend a 4-day camp session, and $20 scholarships to 15 students aged 6-13 to attend a Friday art workshop session to take place between June 15 and August 14, 2015 at REACH Studio in Lansing, Mich.
Wharton Center for Performing Arts will provide scholarships to students ages 9-17 to attend a Broadway-themed camp, Take it from the Top, July 27 – August 1 as part of the MSU Federal Credit Union Institute for Arts & Creativity at Wharton Center located in East Lansing, Mich. Pre-teen, teen and advanced participants will explore music, dance and theatre with Broadway professionals in a safe and fun environment. The primary goal of the workshops is to serve as a catalyst for creativity through professional mentoring to build confidence and provide students a pathway to attain their highest potential.
The Young Creatives program provides support, resources and access to arts education to underserved youth in the Lansing area and offers a growing resource guide for youth.
