Creative Kids Get Ready!
New Young Creatives Guide Now Available
Over the last year, the Arts Council has been busy taking our smARTS for Kids program in a new direction–transforming it to a more expansive and creative offering for youth.
Hello Young Creatives!
And so was born our new Young Creatives Program, which we launched in April 2014 with our call for proposals for our Young Creatives Scholarship grants. The grants offered scholarship dollars for area arts and cultural organizations to assist underserved youth in attending arts-related programs, camps and classes.
To artfinity and beyond
As we head into fall, we are excited to announce that we have just put the finishing touches on our new and improved Young Creatives Guide, which will officially launch mid-September.
The Young Creatives Guide provides Lansing’s young creatives an extensive listing of classes, camps, lectures, workshops and more for anything from writing to dancing to theatre and beyond! The guide will be available on our website and a limited amount of print copies will be available at the Arts Council office on Turner St. in Old Town Lansing. We will also distribute 4500 copies within the tri-county schools.
Takin’ it to the streets
Next spring, we will launch our Young Creatives Youth Billboard Initiative, a public billboard campaign to be held during National Youth Arts Month, March 2015. The project will feature tri-county area student artwork, highlighting the importance of arts in education.
Go green!
We are extremely grateful to Michigan State University Federal Credit Union for their continued financial support of both our smARTs program and our Young Creatives Program. We recently received a $7,500 MSUFCU grant for Young Creatives, in addition to other generous donations and support. The grant dollars will help fund printing, marketing and other associated program costs. With this added support, we will continue growing our Young Creatives Program and provide more creative opportunities and outlets for area youth.
Go interns!
Aside from all of the other really cool things about this guide, probably the coolest is that it is the brainchild of our two smart, amazing, creative and dedicated summer interns, Matthew Cauldell and Marcus Fields. Matt worked fiercely on the design, producing a fun colorful layout and Marcus gathered all of the course information from all of our organizations, diligently crafting the text and making sure there were no mistakes! We were so lucky to have them on this project! We couldn’t have done it without them!
