Arts Council of Greater Lansing Announces 2016 Grant Recipients

More Than $114,000 Awarded to 27 Lansing Area Grantees

LANSING, Mich., June 2, 2016 – The Arts Council of Greater Lansing proudly announces grant funding totaling more than $114,000 to be distributed to area artists and arts organizations. Funding support is provided through the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA) Minigrant Program and Ingham County Hotel/Motel Funds for Arts and Tourism.

Awards were announced at the Arts Council’s spring grant ceremony and press event held earlier today at the Allen Market Place in Lansing’s Eastside Neighborhood. Grantees and their projects were presented by Arts Council executive director, Deborah E. Mikula and program manager, Josh Holliday with honorary guests, Ingham County Board of Commissioners chairperson, Kara Hope and Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs executive director, John Bracey.

The Arts Council is proud to administer these grants to our area artists and arts organizations. “These funds support metro Lansing artists and arts organizations in their work,” said Deborah E. Mikula, Arts Council executive director.  “These grant dollars allow them to execute art projects, attend conferences and classes, promote Ingham County’s rich cultural activities to out-of-county visitors, and as a result, the creative community is strengthened as a whole.”   

Grants were awarded through each of the following program initiatives:

MCACA Minigrant funding totaling $7,325 for 2016 was awarded to the following recipients:

Grand Ledge Area District Library, Lansing Concert Band, Mason Orchestral Society, Nick Adkins, REO Town Commercial Association, Saginaw Oakland Commercial Association and Williamston Theatre

Ingham County Hotel/Motel Funds for Arts and Tourism funding totaling $106,976.32 for 2016 was awarded to the following recipients:

All-of-us Express Children’s Theatre, Capital City Film Festival, Common Ground Music Festival, Riverwalk Theatre, East Lansing Art Festival, East Lansing Film Festival, Happendance, Impression 5 Science Center, Lansing Art Gallery, Lansing Symphony Orchestra, Michigan Institute for Contemporary Art, Michigan Women’s Historical Center & Hall of Fame, Michigan State University Community Music School, Nokomis Native American Cultural Center, Old Town Commercial Association, Potter Park Zoological Society, R.E. Olds Transportation Museum, Summer Solstice Jazz Festival, Wharton Center for Performing Arts and Williamston Theatre
