Arts Council of Greater Lansing Announces $40,000 in Grants
Lansing area artists and arts organizations receive funding for 2024 projects, programs and professional development
Lansing Mich. — The Arts Council of Greater Lansing is pleased to announce its fiscal year 2024 grant recipients for the Greater Lansing Region. Area artists and arts and culture organizations will receive funding totaling $40,000. The funds will be used to engage area youth, support creative capacity building and provide professional development for artists and arts and cultural organization staff.
As Michigan regional re-grantors, each fall the Arts Council administers the Michigan Arts and Culture Council’s (MACC) round-one Professional or Organizational Development (POD) and Arts Projects Minigrants, which are awarded to area artists and arts and cultural organizations. The Arts Council also has their own grants funded throughout the year. This year they are awarding their Young Creatives Grants, which are funded by the Arts Council’s Arts Advancement Endowment Fund and Michigan State University Federal Credit Union and provide funding and scholarships for youth arts programming in the region. They are also awarding their Chris Clark Fellowship grants for Creative Professionals, which was established through a legacy gift to the Arts Council from Lansing area native Chris Clark.
“Awarding these grants to our region’s creatives and arts and cultural organizations is one of the best parts of our work at the Arts Council,” said Meghan Martin, Arts Council executive director. “These grants create an opportunity for artists and arts leadership to learn, grow and create in our region, which helps center the arts in Greater Lansing and make a wide impact for its residents and beyond,” Martin said. “This funding recognizes our creatives and creative leaders, as important members of our communities who contribute a great deal to make our city diverse and rich in the arts.”
The grants assist grantees in covering costs for projects, supplies, and youth programming as well as conference and workshop fees and other support for their work.
Grants were awarded through each of the following programs:
MACC POD Minigrants funding for FY2024 totaling $4,500 was awarded to the following recipients: All-of-us Express Children’s Theatre, Capitol Harp Ensemble, MariaLuz Arambula, Michigan Library Association
MACC Arts Project Minigrants funding for FY2024 totaling $20,000 was awarded to the following recipients: Lansing 5:01, Capitol Harp Ensemble, Delta Township District Library, Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center, Meridian Community Band, REO Town Commercial Association
Young Creatives Grant funding for FY2024 totaling $7,500 was awarded to the following recipients: All-of-Us Express Children’s Theatre, Ballet Maria Luz, Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center, Lansing Symphony Orchestra, MSU Community Music School, Red Cedar Writing Project, REACH Studio Art Center
Chris Clark Fellowships funding for FY2024 totaling $8,000 was awarded to Christian Clark, Dedria Humphries Barker, Petra Daher, Melissa Kaplan, Mary Beth Orr, Masaki Takahashi, Barb Whitney
“Our creatives and arts and cultural organizations devote a lot of time to applying for these very competitive grant programs,” Martin said. “We are extremely proud of all of them for their commitment to the arts in our region, and we congratulate them all.”
