Arts Council Announces 2014 Billboards
Art in the Sky Project is up in the Air!

December 19, 2014 – Lansing, Michigan –The Arts Council of Greater Lansing, in partnership with Adams Outdoor Advertising, has launched its fifth Art in the Sky Billboard Project. The project, which began in 2009, is a way of bringing temporary public art to the region’s residents, highlighting local artist’s works.

This year the Arts Council put out a call for entries to all of its artist members and formed a review panel to choose six works for the billboards. “We had more than 30 entries of high-quality work,” says Executive Director Deborah E. Mikula. “Our panelists really had their work cut out for them, and we felt that they made some excellent choices.”

The billboards started going up early this week and can all be found along highways outside of Ingham County as a way to attract visitors to the area. Over the next two years, they will be periodically moved to locations all over Lansing whenever Adams has available board space.

“We are so grateful to Adams for their generosity, which provides us the occasion to showcase a variety artists and different mediums, and gives our artists the opportunity to see their work presented on a grand scale.”

This year’s artists include Kate Cosgrove, Michelle Detering, Joel Ellis, Jeremy Thompson, Kim Kauffman and Ben Fuhrman.

Lansing residents and visitors should be on the lookout for more Art in the Sky in March as the Arts Council and Adams partner again to highlight local children’s art for National Youth Arts Month.
