Call to Greater Lansing Teachers for Youth Art

The Arts Council of Greater Lansing is honored to partner once again with Adams Outdoor Advertising for our 2020 Young Creatives Billboard Project for Greater Lansing educators and their students.

From March 1-27, 2020 (National Youth Arts Month), the Arts Council will showcase the art of six area youth artists on Adams’ digital billboards, allowing their artwork to be viewed by thousands of residents on their daily travels. Check out the 2019 billboards here.

Teachers who work with K-12 students who attend any Eaton, Ingham or Clinton County school may apply and submit one artwork to be considered for placement on a digital billboard. Teachers of home-schooled children may also apply. Only one artwork per teacher is permitted. Parental permission is required at the time of application. (Form is available on online application.)

If you are a teacher interested in submitting your student’s work, follow these two simple steps:

Step 1: Read the 2020 Young Creatives Billboards Submission Guidelines.

Step 2: Upload your student artwork to the online application at Slideroom by 11:59 p.m. EST on Monday, Feb. 3, 2020.

Submissions will be scored on composition and overall visual elements, including roadside appeal.

Please note: one billboard will be selected outside of this process – the overall juried winner of the MSU Federal Credit Union High School Art Competition will also be given one of these highly coveted billboards.

Teachers will be notified if their student’s work was chosen by Feb. 7, 2020.

Additional Opportunity: March Youth Exhibition

While we wish we could offer billboards to all of the students whose work we receive, we only have a limited amount available to us. Therefore, students whose work is not selected in the judging process are invited to participate in our Youth Art Exhibition, which will be on display at the Arts Council office for the entire month of March.(Details below)

Exhibition showcases the original art of the billboard awardees along with other submitted tri-county student art ages pre-school to 12th grade.

An opening reception will be held during Arts Night Out on Friday, March 6, 2020 in Old Town. All of the youth artists, their family and friends are invited to attend the reception to take photos with their art work and visit with other youth artists and Arts Night Out guests. (As you can see from the photos above, it is a proud moment for our young creatives!)

All art works must be matted or framed for hanging, and canvases must be ready to exhibit, with finished sides. All art must be delivered to the Arts Council by Friday, Feb. 21 at 5 p.m.

If your student (or students–you can submit 2-3 students’ works for the exhibition) would like to participate, please email Dawn Gorman at dawn@www.lansingarts.org with your confirmation by Feb. 17, 2019 at 5 p.m. We look forward to your submission.
