As many of you may know, the Arts Council recently moved its office to The Coworkerie located on the third floor of the new MSUFCU building at 311 Abbot Rd. in East Lansing. After more than three months in this space, we are pleased to share that it has provided the perfect environment for us to do our work to meet our community’s needs. We love our location, and we have welcomed so many guests already. Without the day-to-day tasks of managing our own office, we have created room to engage more with our area creatives, and we’ve had more time to brainstorm creative programming ideas and events. We also now have the added space for workshops, individual consultations, board meetings, and more, allowing us to provide more services to our arts and culture community. It was a great move, and we are so grateful for this partnership with MSUFCU.
Out and about
Our goal with this move was to spend more time getting out in the community and meeting artists and arts organizations where they are, and we have been happily doing just that. In May, we were welcomed by artist Matt Mulford at his studio/shop, The Artisan Alcove, located in the Keller Plaza in Williamston. Matt showed us around, introduced us to other shop owners in the building, and sent us off with some creative gift bags. That same day, we took in an amazing show at Williamston Theatre and got a detailed history and a tour of the space from co-founder Tony Caselli.
In June we visited Casa de Rosado Galeria and Cultural Center, where founder and artist Theresa Rosado shared her space as well as the organization’s fascinating history with us, and July adventures include meeting up with our friends from the Lansing Makers Network, and venturing East to Detroit to visit some of our neighboring city’s creative spaces, including CultureSource.
Scheduling more face-to-face meetings with our community is a key component of our new strategic plan, and it’s something we’re looking forward to doing so much more of in the future.
