Building Community Through the Arts

Providing Arts Expertise and Support to the Community

A central part of our mission at the Arts Council is to provide services to the community that ensure arts and culture are centered in our region’s economic development, creative placemaking, wayfinding, community building, storytelling, and celebration. Over the years, those offerings have grown, along with our experience and creative connections. We are pleased to offer a variety of consulting services, individual or packaged options, that support our community,  our artists, and our arts organizations.

our approach

collaboration

We know that centering creatives on all projects is always the best first step. Our local artists and arts organizations are experts at what they do, and they need to be respected in the creation and facilitation of collaborations. Assuring partnerships are based on aligned values and visions that support their work, their creativity, and their imaginations. Providing opportunities through calls to artists, grant administration, and introductions is the core of our service work.

Cultural Equity

We seek to reflect and tell the stories and histories of all of our residents and artists in the work we do. It is important in creative placemaking that we honor the histories of the spaces and listen to the voices of all those who live and work in our neighborhoods and communities. Our goal is to always seek input and feedback from those who will be most affected by any space beautification, activation, or public arts projects.

Creative Economy

We believe that economic strength and job creation should happen through the centering of the arts, creative placemaking, public art projects, and programs. We work to ensure cultivation of strong relationships with organizers, city and public officials, municipalities, area businesses, and corporations who share our values and understand the importance of centering the arts.

PUBLIC ART

Creating a Sense of Place

The Greater Lansing community is a continually growing arts and culture hub, and our public art helps build a sense of place for our residents and our visitors.

Our consulting offerings include working with artists, neighborhoods, community developers, municipal leaders, and local governments in overseeing public art projects and performing engagements. We manage everything from calls to artists, requests for proposals, selecting project panels, being a liaison between artists and funders, managing funds, payment processing and accounting, technical assistance, and more.

ART PROGRAMMING

Creative Connections and Education

We value the voice of our community, and through listening, we are able to provide offerings that respond to their needs. We encourage learning about arts and culture through a global and local lens, for ourselves and others, and create public workshops with engaging speakers on a variety of topics. We facilitate art-space/organization tours and other activities that connect creatives and the community, and we work with artists to provide rotating art exhibitions for your business. We are also available to speak at your event about grants, public art, creative placemaking, place keeping and wayfinding, just to name a few topics.
