Arts Roll Call Episode 27: Courtney Millbrook–Bringing the Symphony to the Community

Welcome to Episode 27 of Arts Roll Call–a podcast for the arts curious. In this episode, host Robin Miner-Swartz talks with Courtney Millbrook, executive director of the Lansing Symphony Orchestra.

Meet Courtney
Courtney Millbrook joined the Lansing Symphony Orchestra as executive director in October 2009.  As a result of her strategic leadership, the LSO has eliminated significant debt obligations while also gaining new sources of contributed income and increasing earned income through ticket sales. Her focus on community outreach and consistent high-quality artistic programming and branding have elevated the profile of the orchestra within Michigan and the country.  Initiatives undertaken by Courtney and LSO administrative staff have produced a more financially stable and sustainable organization.

In addition to her leadership responsibilities with the LSO, Millbrook is an active member of the greater Lansing community.  She is a member of the Lansing Rotary Club where she has served as Club President and President of the Lansing Rotary Club Foundation. She is also a current board member of the University Club of MSU.  Recently, Courtney has been a volunteer for Mayor’s Arts & Cultural Advisory Commission, Athena WIN (Women Interest Network), Educational Child Care Center (EC3), Montessori Children’s House, Habitat for Humanity, Grand Ledge First United Methodist Church, MSU College of Music “Running Start Competition” judge, and as a peer review panelist for the Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs.
