"Pictoral Conversations"
An Exhibit by Juanita Baldwin

Artist Bio

Juanita Baldwin is an artist who expresses her creativity through multimedia painting and fine art photography. She enjoys the challenge each medium offers and the excitement of learning new techniques.

Her intention is to invite the viewer to look at her landscapes and believe they have been there regardless of whether the scene is from her native country (Chile) or from other places such as the USA, Norway, China or her imagination. Still life is another subject that she visits often.

In her photographs, Juanita strives to create images that make her feel connected to them and that often produce an emotional response. She likes a variety of subjects from real life, some of them with a tendency toward abstraction.

Her paintings and photographs have received numerous awards, locally as well as in state-wide and national competitions. She is a member of the Lansing Art Gallery (Lansing) , Arts Council of Greater Lansing; En Plein Air Art Group (founder), Lansing Area Artists’ Connection (LAAC): co-founder with  artist Gretchen Foster and current Coordinator, Mid-Michigan Art Guild (Vice President 2005-06), and Shiawassee Arts Center (Owosso). Juanita lives in Okemos, Mich., where she is very active in the arts community.

Artist Statement

When I decide to paint a scene, I establish an artistic relationship with the chosen place and some sort of silent conversation happens between the subject matter and the creative artist.

The setting, colors, shapes, lights and darks take an active part in this illusion and help to guide my voice through my journey. Not all the conversations have a happy ending, but several of them are translated into paintings that will remind me of that special moment when everything fell into the right place.
