“Clandestine Simulacrum” an Exhibition by Kimberly Lavon Artist’s Prints Represent Fragments of Self-Portrait     

The Arts Council of Greater Lansing is pleased to present “Clandestine Simulacrum,” an exhibition by Kimberly Lavon

Artist Bio

Kimberly Lavon is a fine art printmaker, graphic designer & gallery owner. Her body of work is a visual manifesto, making real the otherwise intangible in human experience – joy, loss, possibility & more.In addition to creating original works for public & private collections, she offers workshops in printmaking at her studio in East Lansing, MI. Her work can be seen locally in Lansing, as well as many galleries across the country. She has been featured in both solo & joint exhibitions since 1999.

As an artist, Kimberly has been recognized both locally and Nationally. She is the recipient of the 2012 Individual Artist Grant & has the important distinction of being one of the very first Chris Clark Fellowship award recipients.

Presented by the Arts Council of Greater Lansing. Additionally, she has been nominated for the International Windgate Artist Fellowship, 2008.Currently Kimberly is a participant of the Arts Council of Greater Lansing’s 2012 & 2016 Art inthe Sky Billboard Program. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kendall College of Art and Design. Circa 2009.

Artist Statement 

The title of this exhibit is “Clandestine Simulacrum” which means secret self portrait. I haven’t made an image in my likeness for 15 years prior to this collection. The mere thought of it was daunting to say the least. I created pieces that represented fragments of me.

Throughout making the art for this series I found inspiration to make an actual image of myself. It is reduced to the skeleton as a nod to the imagery I’m classically known for creating. Upon the completion of this body of work I deducted that each individual piece equates to the blank piece of my face in essence completing it. Completing me. ©kimberly lavon 2016
