Arts Council Recognizes Nancy Austin Dixon and Warmels & Comstock, PLLC for Commitment to Arts
LANSING, Nov. 26, 2012–The Arts Council of Greater Lansing is pleased to announce that Nancy Austin Dixon will be awarded the 2012 Applause Award and East Lansing based Warmels & Comstock, PLLC will be awarded the 2012 Business Arts Award. Both awards will be presented during the 33rd annual Holiday Glitter event on Dec. 4, 2012 at 7 p.m. at the University Club of MSU honoring the recipients for their leadership, commitment, and vision in support of the arts.
Nancy Austin Dixon is a long time East Lansing resident and passionate supporter of the arts in Greater Lansing as evidenced through her years of dedication, volunteerism, and advocacy. Ms. Dixon has served on the boards of Happendance Professional Dance Company, the East Lansing Art Festival, and East Lansing Recreation and Arts, and has spent countless hours annually promoting area artists and volunteering her time at organizations like Riverwalk Theatre, (SCENE) Metrospace, and the Great Lakes Folk Festival, amongst others. Her extensive knowledge of the local arts community has also led her to serve for many years as a grant reviewer for the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, the Arts Council of Greater Lansing, and the Capital Region Community Foundation. Nancy’s passion for the arts has encouraged countless others’ participation in and support of the arts locally.
Warmels & Comstock, PLLC is a local business that has led in supporting, advancing, and advocating for the local arts and cultural community. Founders Dan Warmels and Kay Comstock have each been involved with area arts organizations and also encouraged their employees to be active in the local arts and cultural community. A passionate advocate for visual art and arts education, Dan Warmels has served on the Lansing Art Gallery board for many years and played a pivotal role in the Gallery’s strategic planning decisions and its move to its present location on North Washington Square. As an advocate for those promoting the arts, Kay Comstock has been active with the Arts Council of Greater Lansing for many years and was instrumental in establishing the investment fund for the Chris Clark Legacy Fund and Fellowship Program. Additionally, the firm’s offices exemplify their strong commitment to the arts as unique art works on permanent display highlight the talent of local artists.
